Below the flammability threshold
Hydrogen mixed with air only becomes flammable at higher concentrations. Below roughly 4%, the gas is under the lower flammability threshold, which is why the concentration is so important.
Safety
It is a fair question to ask before you breathe in a gas. In published studies of hydrogen inhalation at low concentrations, no serious adverse events have been reported, and below roughly 4% in air, hydrogen is under the flammability threshold. Further down you will find what the studies show and where the limits lie, and how Lita Air is designed to be used safely.
The gas
Two properties are worth knowing: hydrogen is flammable in the wrong proportions with air, and it is not toxic. Safety therefore comes down to concentration and handling.
Hydrogen mixed with air only becomes flammable at higher concentrations. Below roughly 4%, the gas is under the lower flammability threshold, which is why the concentration is so important.
Lita Air is built around a controlled concentration of approx. 3-4%. The level was chosen with safety first, well under the proportions at which hydrogen and oxygen become highly flammable.
Hydrogen is a colorless, odorless gas that is not toxic. Small amounts are produced naturally in the gut and are present in ordinary exhaled breath.
The rest comes down to how you use the device: in a suitable setting with good ventilation, away from open flame, and always according to the product instructions.
Side effects
The safety literature on hydrogen inhalation is cautiously reassuring, and we report it with the same caution. The studies are linked in our research library.
In studies where hydrogen was inhaled at low concentrations, no serious adverse events have been reported. The wording matters: "none reported" is not the same as "none exist".
A hospital safety study followed continuous low-concentration hydrogen inhalation over 72 hours. No serious adverse events attributed to the gas were reported.
Research on molecular hydrogen is promising but not yet sufficient for health claims. We use it as educational background and make no promises about results.
People respond differently. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or nursing, or take medication, consult a healthcare professional before use.
The research describes molecular hydrogen as a scientific field. It is not a claim about Lita Air or a promise of how any individual will experience the device.
Safe use
These are the essentials from the product instructions, covering water, time, electricity, and hygiene. Lita Air should be used with compatible distilled water. Think of hydrogen inhalation as a wellbeing routine, not as medical treatment.
Use only compatible distilled or purified water according to instructions. Incorrect water may affect function, product life, and hygiene.
Recommended use is 15-60 minutes per session. More time is not necessarily better; what matters is using the device regularly.
The approx. 3-4% hydrogen concentration is a safety-first level chosen for controlled inhalation.
Hydrogen mixed with oxygen in the wrong proportions can become highly flammable. Use as instructed, in a suitable setting, and away from open flame.
Use the correct power cord and place the device somewhere dry, on a stable surface. Do not use damaged equipment.
Personal inhalation accessories should be handled hygienically and replaced according to instructions. Do not share personal inhalation parts without proper hygiene precautions.
Consult a qualified healthcare professional before use if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or nursing, take medication, or are unsure.
Documentation on product safety and marking for your device comes with your order confirmation.
Lita Air is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition.
Device quality
Hydrogen generated at home is not always of the same quality. Electrolysis is chemistry: the quality of the membrane, the electrode materials, and the purity of the water affect what ends up in the gas you breathe. Basic generators without published specifications can deliver lower purity, and unclear materials make possible byproducts hard to rule out.
Lita Air pairs titanium PEM electrolysis (SPE), which separates the hydrogen from the oxygen as the gas is made, with compatible distilled water. Read more in our titanium PEM guide. And whichever device you are considering, check the specifications before you buy.
This text describes generation methods in general and is not aimed at any individual manufacturer.

FAQ
In published studies of hydrogen inhalation at low concentrations, no serious adverse events have been reported. That is not the same as saying side effects cannot occur: the research field is young, individual responses vary, and the evidence is not sufficient for health claims. If you have a medical condition, consult a healthcare professional before use.

The recommendation for Lita Air is 15-60 minutes per session, and more time is not necessarily better. The body does not store molecular hydrogen. What is not taken up leaves with the breath. Stick to the recommended session time, and favor regular sessions over long ones.
Consult a qualified healthcare professional before use if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or nursing, take medication, or are unsure. Hydrogen inhalation is a wellbeing routine, not medical care.
